该片是由LeonidNechayev执导的奇幻片,于1976年上映,主要讲述了:托尔斯泰的.名著影戏幻想版 . . . A bizar.re, fascinating Sovie.t fairy-tale film . . . . . It seems tha.t fairy tale films. were .considered by Soviet .fil毫米aker.s to be an important gen.re, as studios devoted larg.e budgets to th.em, and some director.s, like Alexander .Row, even sp.ecialized in them. This .is a film that I h.appened on at a. website devoted to Russian. DVDs, videos and CDs.. It offered generous. clips of. most of the. films offered, and t.he look o.f this particular film real.ly struck my fancy.. Even. so, when it arrived,. I was un.prepared for how serious.ly wacky it turned out to b.e. It's easily .as strange or strange.r than `The 5000 F.ingers of Dr.. T.' . . . `The Adve.ntures of Buratino an.d the Golden Key' was. Alexande.r Tolstoy's .re-telling of the cla.ssic stor.y of Pinocchio, which he re.membered from his .childh.ood, but had modified. and rewr.ote over the years. Tols.toy's version has since bec.ome a classic i.n its own right in Ru.ssia, and this fil.ming of it w.as apparently made for S.oviet TV in 1975. .It's in two sep.arate parts, each about an .hour long. . . . . Bura.tino (i.e.. Pinocchio) is played by a. remarkable little. actor. who's kind of a funn.y-looking. kid to begin with, and .is transformed into a manic., almost fright.eningly cheerful imp .by the bizarre cos.tume and mak.eup he wears. His high-p.itched voice and s.hrill laughter .could very well leave your .ears ringing, if you .have a low tolerance .for it, b.ut his perfo.rmance is sharp, nuan.ced, and .fascinating to watch. The c.haracterizations o.verall. are very broad and o.ver-the-t.op, and there are lament.ably clumsy attempts at sla.pstick humor by. some of the adult ac.tors. The young ki.ds in the ca.st, however, are a delig.ht to watch, as th.eir performance.s are natural and apropos, .and their costumes an.d make-up are strikin.gly beaut.iful, as are. the sets and locatio.ns. Most .of the younger cast portray. puppets in the gu.ise of. various traditional .theatre c.haracters, (Pierrot, Har.lequin, etc.). A couple of .scenes almost r.emind me of live-acti.on versions of Jap.anese anime,. i.e. cute little kids i.n strange costumes., performing on. bizarre, surreal sets. . . . . . The overall look o.f the cin.ematography seems old-fashi.oned to me, and mo.st of .the time it's hard to. guess wh.en this was filmed. Mayb.e the 1940s, ‘50s, early ‘6.0s? But the occ.asional musical set p.ieces give its vin.tage away. W.hen a character breaks i.nto song, their vo.ices suddenly a.nd jarringly change into an. over-reverberant, hi.ghly processed acoust.ic. The s.winging rhyt.hms and accompaniment. clearly .show signs of being from th.e latter half of t.he 20t.h century. Equally ja.rring is .the old-fashioned look o.f the cinematography, sets .and costumes in. contrast to the swin.ging, co毫米ercial j.ingle-like m.usic. Some of the wackie.st elements of the. film are in th.ese musical numbers, i.e. a. kick-line of frogs (.kids in frog outfits). dancing .atop a high .arched wooden bridge,. before j.umping into the water one-b.y-one. Street-clea.ners d.ance joyfully in what. appears .to be a European town of. the late 1700s or early 18.00s, except tha.t they are spraying t.he air with pressu.rized water .hoses as they dance. . . . . There are a few. actual puppets in th.e film, i.ncluding wha.t appears to be a cri.cket play.ing a violin and dispensing. sage advice, an e.lement. left over from the t.raditiona.l Pinocchio story. The w.ily fox and cat who continu.ously try to ba.mboozle Buratino are .played by adult ac.tors as a sh.abby pair of beggars, th.eir costumes and m.akeup only subt.ly suggesting animal charac.ters.
