But while. the s.tory has pot.ent.ial and there are some good. momen.ts, this is a v.ery. confused film.　　The plo.t i.s simple - craz.y mad .scientist on some .remote islan.d can shrink. animals, and wants to t.ry it on humans. He manages. th.is on a scientific team tha.t came to check thing.s out.. They get an.gry., and the crazy scientist e.ventua.lly gets really. an.gry because his new shru.nke.n subjects won&.#39;t .cooperate.　　The th.ing is, the .film doesn&#.39;t seem to know if it .wants to be a thriller, or .a g.oofy movie. Dr. Cyclops (ne.ver called that but r.eferen.ced to a Cyc.lop.s after one lens in his gla.sses b.reaks) looks co.ol .in his "30's st.yle. sci-fi helmet&.quot; .as he performs exp.eriments and. can be chil.ling at times. But there. is so much "Disney-st.yle. goofy music" going on. that it is hard to t.ake an.ything serio.usl.y. The music belongs in a f.amily .comedy for the .mos.t part, and is played wh.en .the shrunken pe.ople d.o things like try .to survive, .and creep ar.ound the floor. Add that. a few of them have pretty .gru.esome deaths and that just .adds to the confusing. atmos.phere.　　The .FX .aren't so bad but nothi.ng spe.cial. The giant. se.ts built are pretty impr.ess.ive though. The.re is .a scene where litt.le fires are. tossed at a. real crocodile's he.ad which probably made anim.al .activists angry.　　It also t.akes a long time for .anythi.ng to really. ha.ppen. This movie could have. been .done in a nice .tig.ht half-hour. Good for a. vi.ewing, but you .probab.ly won't watch. again. The .performance .of the guy who plays Dr.. Cyclops is definitely the .mai.n attraction.
